Glaive Quama restoration by GhostLiger Glaive Quama restoration by GhostLiger
Remember I was talking about restoring the Glaive Quama I received from :iconproitzen:? Well the very same night, I got my parts bag out and began looking at how I could make a new cockpit for him.

The goal was to make a cockpit and find a way to attach the wings, without gluing or hacking any of the Quama parts in any way.

It was tough, but I managed to achieve it. Unfortunately I couldn't work out how to hinge the wings to make them fold up, without gluing some joints on it, so that part failed, but at least now he's pilotable again :D

*Caution, ramble alert*

So, how'd I do it? First off, I dug out a spare Guysack cockpit I knew I had lying around, then set to work trying to find a way to attach the wings to it. I noticed that there is a small square peg on each wing, and I happened across a part from my spare Geno Breaker (Which I'd originally got to fix up my old one) which had a slit in it that's the perfect width for the wing peg to slit into and stay held.
Unfortunately Geno Breaker only has one of these, but I remembered that I had some old Geno Saurer parts too (Saurer and Breaker share the same base parts) and luckily, managed to find that piece too!
With these found, it was just a case of shaving the parts down so that the non-Quama parts could be glued solidly. Once that was done, I had to find a way for the whole set up to sit on Quama's back... At first I thought flipping the tail around (Kudos to :iconproitzen: for giving me that idea, since she turned the tail flap around when she sent it to me to hide the big hole the missing cockpit left in Quama's back :D) and placing the cockpit on the tail flap's hardpoint... unfortunately, the attachment was far too loose and too high -_-
Eventually I thought of gluing something to the base of the cockpit that'll fit into the hole left in Quama's back. With a lot of hacking and flying parts (^^;) I managed to cut off and glue the back end of a Shield Liger's missile pod to the bottom.

It's not a perfect fit, and it needs painting still, but it'll do for now :D

And what's better is that if I ever come into possession of the missing parts, the whole set up can be removed and the Zoid can be returned to complete glory! :headbang:

What? You won't let me have it? That's cruel TT_TT

If I have to resort to picking up a complete one rather than just the missing frame I'm gonna go back to this guy and alter it so that his wings fold up. Actually I might do that anyway. I got an idea of how I might be able to do it without permanently altering the Quama's parts.

That's a shame about the stickers. Darwock does replica decals/stickers, but I dunno if he has Quama's

Quama looks great! o_o wow, that's a great cockpit, it looks lots like his own! I'm so glad I sent him to you now! XD

I used my Guysak's extra cockpit on some headless vintages I got, so I wouldn't have gotten so lucky. XD

:D I've had the idea of using the Guysack cockpit ever since you told me Quama was missing his!

I'm glad you like the result. I'm halfway through painting it now so I should be able to post the finished Quama soon!

:aww: Speaking of vintages, I was over my parents the other day and I checked out my old Whiteheads... Every single one, except for Zoids2 Aquazoid for some reason, have turned into yellow heads! And it's weird because with Mantazoid, only the bottom section of it's head has gone yellow, so I know it's not sun damage since if it was, the top half at the front would be yellow too!

seriously, how the hell do you and your friends come across this many Zoids?! Is America the only place where there aren't any?

:iconproitzen: got this guy when Zoids were still plentiful in America. UK and Aus is pretty much Zoidless too, aside from the odd lucky finds in discount and charity shops. What we all got comes from online hobby stores, eBay, selling and trading with each other, and the aforementioned lucky finds.

It's really just a case of willingness to take risks and luck (particularly with eBay and a online toy store called Destructive Toys - NEVER visit Destructive Toys! They done me out of £40!)

Well, shoot. I wish I knew you when we carried zoids at the Dollar Tree.

We carried Megaleon (or whatever the chameleon type is), Diloforce, Glavis Quama, Demantis, Maccurtis, and Grounchar. And yes, each zoid was a dollar. I really should've taken better advantage of that. :/ If I'd a known so many people would still want these guys later, I could've loaded up and shared the wealth. Sorry I didn't. :/

it's okay. I wish I just saved the 100 dollar Toys R Us gift certificate I got when I was ten for four years... Energy Liger: $4.95. And he was the most expensive. I could really have had a collection if I just saved my damn money!

Oh clever! That's an awesome removable replacement job...I'd make it black, since the actual cockpit is.

FLY, LITTLE LONGISQUAMA.

Thanks :D I don't usually get clever ideas, so I was long over due for one :giggle:

I shall do it black then. It'd be easier anyway, since I don't think I have the right shade of purple to match the legs ^^;

At least he can do that now! He can't carry Demantis yet though... gotta find a way to put that attachment on!
